Track 4: Meteoric Weekend

She came from out of town walked along the seafront and I knew I’d seen her before
It’s not déjà vu, if a dream comes true, arriving like a letter at your door
I was looking for a man with ambition and a plan, and some money to take me away
In the winter the piste, the summer in Nice, a yacht moored off the beach in Saint Tropez
Then you stroll along and I knew it was wrong, but somehow I got lost in your spell
Dragging me down to the pier (won a plastic lavaliere), then riding on the fairground as well
(All that money we made at the penny arcade), 50p at least at our peak
(Then that good old son of a gun; came home 100 to one), paid for dinner at the Café Martinique

And I know it’s not crazy to be so
And I know it’s not crazy to be so (oh no, dare you go)
(Skipping pebbles out through the spray, acting like we’re both castaway
Washed up onto the sand, lost hand in hand), a meteoric, euphoric weekend down by the sea
But it was never meant to be

I thought my taste sophisticated, never dreamed I’d fascinate at someone as earthy as you
Like the child who yearns the sweet, you swept me off my feet, and I’ve no idea where this is leading to
It might be better being poor, if you can be sure, that he’s loyal to no one but you
Not like the lovers in my past, those playboys never last, looking for the latest ingénue
And I know it’s not crazy to be so, and I know it’s not crazy to be so (oh no dare you go)

(In the breaking light of day, the world inside and out is grey), and doubts spin in my head
Because you’re that urban refugee, not a care, fancy free, living life by the day instead
We walked along the promenade, (you with this slick façade), something that wasn’t there last night
(No more slumming with the hoi polloi), barrier up (no sense of joy), a breath away from only being polite

(Saying goodbye and we’ll meet again, but knowing that this is the end
A mobile exchange, all those numbers rearranged), a meteoric, euphoric weekend down by the sea, but it was never meant to be, no it was never meant to be
